Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic and qualified Early Childhood Teachers (Pre-K) to provide engaging, developmentally appropriate enrichment programming for young learners. In this role, you will create a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment while implementing curriculum that supports children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
As an Early Childhood Teacher, you will foster a positive classroom culture, supervise students, communicate with families and school staff as needed, and ensure compliance with all BAM! and Illinois licensing requirements.
In this role, you will:
- Lead engaging enrichment activities for Pre-K aged students.
- Implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and learning experiences.
- Create a safe, structured, and positive classroom environment.
- Supervise and support children during all program activities.
- Utilize positive behavior management techniques.
- Maintain accurate attendance and program documentation.
- Ensure compliance with BAM! policies and Illinois licensing requirements.
- Communicate effectively with site leadership, families, and school personnel.
- Support students' social-emotional growth and development.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
Qualifications
Applicants must be at least 19 years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED.
In addition, candidates must meet one of the following educational and experience requirements:
Option 1
- 60 semester hours (or 90 quarter hours) of credit from an accredited college or university, including:
- 6 semester hours (or 9 quarter hours) in courses directly related to child care and/or child development from birth through age six.
Option 2
- One year (1,560 clock hours) of child development experience in a nursery school, kindergarten, or licensed child care center; and
- 30 semester hours (or 45 quarter hours) of credit from an accredited college or university, including:
- 6 semester hours (or 9 quarter hours) in courses directly related to child care and/or child development from birth through age six.
Option 3
Completion of one of the following Department-approved credentialing programs:
- Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential
- Certified Childcare Professional (CCP) Credential
- Gateways to Opportunity Credentials:
- Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Credential Level 3 or higher; or
- Infant Toddler Credential (ITC) Level 3 or higher
Additional Requirements
- Passion for teaching and inspiring young learners.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with children ages 3–5.
- Reliable transportation.
- Valid Driver's License or State ID.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check.
- Current CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain certification.
- Current physical examination and TB test (or ability to obtain prior to employment).
- Active Gateways Registry membership and proof of registration.
- Ability to lift and carry approximately 20–50 lbs. occasionally, with or without accommodations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in licensed child care or early childhood education programs.
- Experience implementing play-based or enrichment-focused curriculum.
- Knowledge of Illinois DCFS licensing requirements.
- Experience supporting social-emotional learning and behavior management.
