Job Description

We are seeking enthusiastic Early Childhood Assistants (Pre-K) to support our licensed early childhood enrichment programs. This position is designed to assist the Early Childhood Teacher in maintaining required staff-to-student ratios and providing a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment for young learners.

The Early Childhood Assistant works under the direct supervision of an Early Childhood Teacher and supports classroom activities, student supervision, transitions, behavior management, and daily program operations. This position is not responsible for independently leading a classroom or assuming full responsibility for a group of children, except as permitted by Illinois licensing regulations for brief periods when applicable.

In this role, you will:

  • Assist the Early Childhood Teacher in supervising Pre-K students during program activities.
  • Support the implementation of age-appropriate enrichment activities and curriculum.
  • Help maintain a safe, positive, and structured classroom environment.
  • Assist with classroom setup, cleanup, and organization of materials.
  • Support student transitions, attendance, and daily routines.
  • Encourage positive social interactions and age-appropriate behavior.
  • Ensure student safety and compliance with BAM! policies and licensing requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with site leadership and teaching staff.
  • Assist with maintaining classroom documentation and records as needed.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 19 years of age.
  • Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must work under the direct supervision of an Early Childhood Teacher.
  • Cannot assume full responsibility for a group of children except as permitted by Illinois licensing regulations for brief periods when 18 years of age or older.

Additional Requirements

  • Passion for working with and supporting young children.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a classroom setting.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Valid Driver's License or State ID.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check.
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain certification.
  • Current physical examination and TB test (or ability to obtain prior to employment).
  • Active Gateways Registry membership and proof of registration.
  • Willingness to complete additional training as required.
  • Ability to lift and carry approximately 20–50 lbs. occasionally, with or without accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with young children in a school, child care, camp, or enrichment setting.
  • Experience supporting classroom teachers or instructors.
  • Familiarity with early childhood education practices and positive behavior management techniques.
  • Knowledge of Illinois DCFS licensing requirements.

Availability Required: Mondays Thru Fridays, 3:00 PM - 5:45 PM
