At Carrum, we live and breathe the mission of transforming the healthcare system to create an unmatched experience for patients. If you are passionate about changing healthcare and want to finally get rid of surprise bills, poor quality, and high prices, while thriving in an entrepreneurial, cutting-edge environment, we would love to connect with you.

In 2014 Carrum reinvented the Center of Excellence (CoE) category in digital health. We are the only company in this space with a digital platform and mobile app powering this novel marketplace. Today, most of the US population lives within a 3 hours driving distance of a Carrum CoE and our providers rank in the top 10% nationally. Our team’s execution has been recognized by the venture community and we’ve raised more than $50M in aggregate from investors like Tiger Global Management and Wildcat Ventures. Our impact has been externally proven in a 2021 RAND Corporation study and featured as a Harvard Business School (HBS) case study.

Reporting to the VP of People, you will own day-to-day People Operations company-wide and play a critical role in helping Carrum Health scale our People strategy and operations. You’ll love this role because you appreciate being able to address a diverse array of opportunities. One moment you’re strategizing with the VP of People on how to embed our values along the entire spectrum of the employee journey, the next moment you’re meeting with an employee to finalize their upcoming leave, and you end the day by helping a Hiring Manager post a critical role we need to recruit. This role will likely have direct reports in the future but will be an individual contributor for the foreseeable future. You’ve hustled, you’ve created, you’ve implemented, and you love the intensity of a startup in high-growth mode.

The salary range for this role is $115k - $140k plus bonus, depending on level of experience and geographic location.

You’re excited about this opportunity because you will own...

  • HR Business Partner:
    • Act as an HR business partner to mid-level management, providing guidance on HR strategy, organizational planning, employee engagement, change management, and employee relations.
  • Talent Acquisition Support:
    • Assist in the recruitment process, from job posting to candidate interviews.
    • Occasionally provide more targeted sourcing support for critical roles.
  • Onboarding:
    • Own and streamline the onboarding process for new hires to ensure a smooth transition for employees into Carrum’s culture.
  • Employee Relations:
    • Act as the first point of contact for employee relations concerns: address and resolve employee concerns in a timely and effective manner, or escalate when necessary.
    • Coach managers through the performance improvement plan and termination process, when necessary.
  • Benefits Administration:
    • Serve as the benefits plan administrator, managing enrollments and addressing employee queries, including providing 401K admin support.
    • Stay updated on industry trends to continually enhance our benefits package.
  • Performance Reviews & Compensation Cycle:
    • Execute annual performance review, promotion, and compensation cycle, ensuring a fair and constructive process that provides both the organization and employees with the feedback they need.
  • Employee Engagement & DEIJ:
    • Facilitate the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Committee to continually improve infrastructure and processes that support an inclusive culture and a diverse workforce.
    • Manage the bi-annual Employee Engagement survey process, analyze survey results and implement initiatives to enhance employee engagement.
  • Compliance:
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal employment laws, including maintaining employee handbook.
    • Stay informed about changes in legislation and update policies accordingly.
  • HR Tech Stack Administration:
    • Serve as the HR admin on our HR tech stack, including Rippling, Greenhouse, CultureAmp, Predictive Index, and Curricula, ensuring accurate data management.
    • Explore opportunities to streamline and enhance through integrations.
  • IT Administration:
    • Serve as the IT administrator, overseeing employee access and technology needs, including onboarding and offboarding tickets, laptop and equipment inventory and repairs, and Carrum’s equipment recycling program.

We’re excited about you because…

You bring a rich background of People Operations and HR generalist experience.

  • Prior experience scaling People Ops infrastructure and processes at a rapidly growing startup
  • 8+ years of People Operations/HR Generalist experience, healthcare or technology company preferred
  • Prior experience working with Rippling and Greenhouse is a must; CultureAmp, Predictive Index, and Curricula are ‘nice-to-haves’
  • Ability to see the big picture ‘where we’re headed’ and prioritize accordingly in a fast-paced environment when the unexpected arises
  • Robust knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and compliance requirements
  • Track record in building trusting relationships with employees and managers, and excellent communication skills that easily adapt to the audience
  • Entrepreneurial and resourceful — As an early member of a startup, we need people who can find creative ways to make a big impact quickly and without much direction.
  • Experience handling deadlines, keeping many balls in the air, and prioritizing work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Passion for collaborating cross-functionally with sales, operations, client success, data, and product teams to ideate, complete projects, and drive impactful results.

Why you’ll love working with us...

  • We’re a hard-working, humble, and compassionate group motivated to solve the hard problems in healthcare today. You’ll work with talented, experienced co-workers from companies like Booz & Company, Livongo, 98point6, Google, and Optum. We believe in using data to inform decisions, technology to make our jobs easier, and creative thinking to pave the future.
  • We are working with some of the most recognized and esteemed names in the country. Top hospitals like Johns Hopkins, Mayo Clinic, Stanford Health Care, Scripps Health, and Rush Health have joined our platform. Employers who use our benefit include Walgreens, US Foods, United Airlines, and large public sector organizations like the self-insured schools of California, and the State of Maine.
  • We empower team members to be autonomous and provide a collaborative environment where you get support and healthy feedback. You can bring your authentic self to work every day and are encouraged to help others do the same.
  • We carve out time to let go of work to celebrate our successes and have fun. We’re all working remotely right now, but prior to the pandemic a few of the monthly activities we enjoyed included group dinners, bowling, and hiking. Now we bring the fun online with holiday costume contests, arts and crafts activities, musical events, weekly meditations, and gratitude sessions.
  • You’ll feel proud that the work you do each day directly impacts people’s lives in big and meaningful ways.

Other benefits:

  • Stock option plan
  • Flexible schedules and remote work
  • Chicago and San Francisco offices available
  • Self-managed vacation days, within reason
  • Paid parental leave
  • Health, vision, and dental insurance
  • 401K retirement plan
