‍

POSITION SUMMARY

The People & Talent Operations Specialist is a key individual-contributor hire on Iron Sheepdog's People & Talent team, partnering directly with the Director of People. This role brings experience across all functions of HR and administers the full employee lifecycle end-to-end, from full-cycle recruiting for exempt and non-exempt positions through onboarding, HRIS administration and payroll inputs, benefits, employee relations, compliance, and offboarding, across ISD's multi-state footprint. Just as importantly, this person supports the Director of People in shaping people and organizational strategy as ISD scales, turning plans for workforce growth, org design, and culture into working programs. Success looks like requisitions that keep moving, new hires set up for success from day one, accurate and timely employee data and payroll inputs, audit-ready compliance records, and people programs that keep pace with the company's growth.

‍

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

People & Organizational Strategy Support

  • Support the Director of People in developing and executing people and organizational strategy as ISD scales, including workforce and headcount planning, org design, and role leveling.
  • Maintain ISD's job architecture and compensation framework documentation as new roles are added, and support job leveling and market pricing analyses.
  • Translate people data — recruiting, turnover, engagement, and headcount metrics — into insights and recommendations that inform leadership decisions.
  • Support the design and rollout of engagement, culture, and performance initiatives that reinforce ISD's flat, fast-moving, results-oriented environment.
  • Help build and scale HR programs, processes, and policies so the People & Talent function keeps pace with company growth.

‍

Talent Acquisition & Recruiting

  • Manage full-cycle recruitment for exempt and non-exempt positions.
  • Partner with managers to develop job descriptions and hiring strategies.
  • Source, screen, interview, and coordinate candidate selection processes.
  • Manage applicant tracking activities and maintain recruiting metrics.
  • Coordinate background checks, employment verification, and pre-employment requirements.
  • Prepare offer letters and extend offers upon approval by the Director of People.

‍

Onboarding & Employee Experience

  • Coordinate all new hire onboarding activities.
  • Ensure completion of required employment documentation.
  • Partner with managers to create successful onboarding plans.
  • Coordinate IT, facilities, and other onboarding logistics.

‍

HR Operations & Payroll Inputs

  • Prepare and submit accurate, approved payroll inputs (new hires, terminations, status and pay changes, and benefit deductions) to Finance by each payroll cutoff; Finance owns payroll processing.
  • Maintain employee data within the HRIS as the system of record for payroll inputs.
  • Process employee status changes.
  • Develop and maintain HR reports, metrics, and dashboards.
  • Support annual audits and compliance reporting.

‍

Benefits Administration

  • Support employee benefit enrollment and changes.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and brokers.

‍

Employee Relations & Compliance

  • Serve as a resource for employee questions regarding policies and procedures.
  • Support the Director of People on employee relations matters and investigations, including documentation and fact-gathering; final determinations rest with the Director.
  • Assist with policy development and handbook updates.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.

‍

Offboarding & Workforce Administration

  • Coordinate resignation and termination processes in partnership with the Director of People, who approves all terminations.
  • Coordinate final payroll inputs with Finance and issue benefits notifications.
  • Ensure timely removal of system access and company assets.

‍

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field — or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible HR/recruiting experience.
  • 3 - 5+ years of progressive HR experience spanning all core HR functions — full-cycle recruiting, onboarding, HRIS and payroll inputs, benefits, employee relations, and compliance.
  • Experience supporting an HR leader on people programs, policy development, or organizational initiatives at a growing organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently own and run a program (e.g., onboarding, compliance tracking, a requisition pipeline) end-to-end with minimal oversight.
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort managing multiple onboarding cycles and open requisitions simultaneously in a high-growth environment.
  • Comfort working daily in Google Workspace, Slack, and general HRIS/ATS-style platforms.
  • Sound judgment and discretion with confidential employee and candidate data, consistent with ISD's White-Glove philosophy.
  • A builder's mentality — comfortable creating and owning process where none exists yet.

‍

Advances Placement Toward the Top of the Range

  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience, including supporting workforce planning, org design, or job architecture work at a scaling organization.
  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent HR certification.

  • Experience in a high-growth startup or scaling organization.
  • Familiarity with the logistics, trucking, or construction supply chain industry.
