Cargo Claims Specialist

This position will address overage, shortage, and damage issues; research causes of OS&Ds; analyze root causes; determine resolutions; and communicate findings to management. Ensures organization policies are being followed in accordance with Lineage policy, insurance coverage, legislation, and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Capture data related to potential claims of overages, shortages, and damages of customer products and unexpected fees.

  • Collect evidence related to the handling of cargo including documents, images, and verbal communication for use in the resolution of claims.

  • Investigate product claims made by or on behalf of customers, shippers, and consignees.

  • Maintain records of claims, associated documents, evidence, and dispositions.

  • Work closely with logistics, warehouse operations, business partners, and customers to provide accurate timely information regarding freight overages, shortages, damages, etc. findings and determine appropriate dispositions.

  • Take after-hours calls to assist operational groups, business partners, drivers and customers with issues related to product shipments and potential losses.

  • Generate OS&D reports and data entry.

  • Works with other departments to determine corrective measures to identify trends and mitigate future OS&Ds

  • Professional communication etiquette

  • Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.

QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES)

  • High School diploma or GED.

  • 3 years perishable commodity cargo claims experience or the equivalent length of time in customer service within the transportation industry

  • Carmack Amendment knowledge strongly preferred.

  • Certified Claims Processor (CCP) preferred.

  • Proficient computer skills required including Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Effective time management skills and the ability to self-prioritize workload.

  • Able to handle fast paced environment with attention to detail.

  • A strong work ethic and team mentality
