About Take Command

Take Command is a start-up on a mission to improve the healthcare system, starting with health insurance. Pragmatically speaking, we help employers reimburse employees for individual insurance instead of offering a traditional one-size-fits-all group plan. We believe this model can empower employees (when they have the right support) to be savvy healthcare consumers and have a transformative impact on the entire healthcare system.

Let’s be honest—health insurance is usually a confusing, frustrating, and even emotional experience for people. We want to fix that with a new model, great technology, and a superior user experience. We have made a great start, but we need your help to fully realize our long-term vision.

About the Role

The Manager of Advising & Advocacy leads the team responsible for helping customers make confident, informed health plan choices and for championing them when issues arise with their insurance or healthcare experience. This leader will manage licensed professionals who provide expert plan selection guidance and tenacious advocacy when claims, billing, or coverage challenges occur.
The right candidate brings a balance of empathy and operational excellence - ensuring every customer feels cared for while building scalable processes that deliver consistent, high-quality support.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead, coach, and develop the Advising & Advocacy team, fostering a culture of empathy, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
  • Set clear performance expectations, monitor key metrics, and deliver ongoing feedback and coaching.
  • Ensure the team maintains required state health insurance licenses and adheres to all compliance requirements.
Advising & Advocacy Operations
  • Oversee the Advising function, ensuring customers receive personalized, compliant, and accurate plan selection support.
  • Oversee the Advocacy function, managing resolution of escalated insurance and healthcare issues, including claim denials, plan and billing disputes, and network access problems.
  • Maintain high service quality standards and drive operational improvements to increase efficiency and customer satisfaction.
Process & Compliance
  • Ensure all advising and advocacy processes are compliant with federal and state regulations, including licensure requirements.
  • Partner with Compliance to stay ahead of evolving health insurance regulations and ensure the team is trained accordingly.
  • Implement scalable systems and workflows to support peak season volume and ongoing service demands.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Product, Marketing, and Operations to relay customer insights and advocate for improvements that enhance the overall experience.
  • Work closely with Training & Quality to onboard, upskill, and certify team members.

Qualifications

  • Active health insurance license or ability to obtain licensure within 60 days of hire (multiple state licenses preferred).
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in a customer-facing role, preferably within health insurance, healthcare advocacy, or related industry.
  • Deep understanding of individual and group health insurance products, claims processes, and healthcare provider networks.
  • Proven ability to lead high-performing teams in a fast-paced, compliance-driven environment.
  • Exceptional communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience implementing and refining processes to improve efficiency and customer outcomes.
  • Spanish language skills strongly preferred to better serve our diverse customer base.

Preferred

  • Multi-state health insurance licensing.
  • Experience with CRM or ticketing systems (e.g., HubSpot, Monday.com, Zendesk, Salesforce).
  • Knowledge of ICHRA/QSEHRA or individual market health plans

Compensation

  • $100,000-$120,000 salary range
  • 12% bonus
