Position Summary:
As the Construction Manager, your responsibilities will include effectively managing, developing and inspiring the construction crew, maintaining accurate communication with office staff and customers, and implementing the best practices to promote a positive work environment and productivity which are essential to uphold our reputation as a trusted partner with our customers.
The Contribution:
- Manage day-to-day field operations and scheduling of construction crews, ensure safety of all to including the traveling public on roadways.
- Hire, train and develop team members creating a trusting, positive, motivating team culture
- Develop effective and efficient work project plans to complete construction activities on schedule and on budget.
- Ensure professional communications with our VDOT customer as appropriate
- Complete and submit accurate daily, weekly, and monthly activity reports.
- Create and submit weekly work schedules for staff and customers (VDOT).
- Confirm and document accurate inventory and update materials usage sheets.
- Work with established vendors to obtain necessary materials and equipment.
- Create, attend, and record meetings with customers and office staff.
- Review and approve staff timesheets for accuracy weekly.
- Be familiar with coordinating lane closures and permitting procedures.
- Schedule Law Enforcement deployment for use on limited-access highways.
- Maintain and update the construction manual weekly.
- Provide crew member contacts and qualifications to the customers.

We are looking for a highly energetic and customer-focused individual who is professional and knowledgeable about the transportation technology industry and business in Virginia. The ideal candidate will be able to deliver accurate, up-to-date information and adapt to our fast-changing work environment. The individual should be willing to work flexible hours and strive to achieve their full potential. You will bring the following competencies to the organization:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Prefer minimum 3 – 5 years of experience in the construction industry.
- Technical expertise and knowledge of roadway sensor installations.
- Proficiency with MS Office Suite.
- Travel requirement: 75 % in state.
- VDOT Intermediate Level Certification is preferred. Basic Level is also acceptable.
- Working knowledge of Maintenance of Traffic requirements on Virginia roadways.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment while performing work close to heavy. traffic volume and high-speed roadways.
- Must pass and have clean driving record and clear motor vehicle records.
- Successfully pass a required Virginia Department of Transportation pre employment background check.
- Comfortable safely operating concrete cutting saws and common power tools.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Employees in this role should be comfortable with operating machinery and should be comfortable with heights. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
